The quickest way
In the app
- Open Emshi and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Tap the menu button (three lines) at the top of any screen — on the map, tap your picture instead — and choose Settings.
- Scroll down to Account and tap Delete account.
- Read what will be deleted, tap Continue, then Delete permanently.
Your account is deleted straight away. Emshi then clears its data from your phone and goes back to the Create account screen.
If you can’t use the app
By email
Email [email protected] from the email address on your Emshi account — if you signed in with Google, that Google account’s address — with the subject Delete my Emshi account.
We may reply to confirm the request came from you. We will never ask for your password. We delete the account within 30 days and email you when it’s done.
Gone for good
What is deleted
- Your name, email address, handle and referral code.
- Your sign-in: your password, your link to Google, and our sign-in provider’s record of you, with your sessions.
- Your friends, shared goals, duels and nudges — for both people in each.
- Your posts and milestones, and every reaction to them or by you.
- Your place on any leaderboard.
- On your phone: your session, your walk history and routes, walks waiting to upload, your streak and your settings.
Deleting your account can’t be undone, and any unspent points are lost.
Kept, without you in it
What is kept, and for how long
Three kinds of record stay after deletion. They are attached to an account record with no name, email, handle or sign-in left in it, so they can no longer be linked to you:
- Zone visits — which zone, when, for how long, and the points earned. Sponsors are invoiced on counts of distinct visitors, and deleting these would change a number a sponsor has already paid for.
- Walk totals — when each walk started and ended, its distance, duration, steps and points, and the result of its fraud check. There are no routes: our server never keeps them.
- Reward redemptions — which reward, its cost, its voucher code and status, because an issued voucher has value and has to be accounted for with the sponsor who honours it.
These records have no fixed deletion date: they are kept, de-identified, for as long as sponsor reporting and accounting need them.
Separately, deleted data can stay in our database provider’s restore history for up to 30 days before it is overwritten, and our host’s server logs — which record requests and the IP addresses they came from — are deleted on the host’s own schedule. Emshi’s own request log holds no account and nothing you sent, and is deleted after 30 days whatever happens to your account.
Being straight with you
What our own records keep
Emshi has an internal dashboard the founders use to answer support questions and to judge walks the fraud check flagged (privacy policy). Deleting your account does not currently clear three things it recorded:
- A correction to your points, if we ever made one — the amount, the reason and who made it. It stays attached to the de-identified account record above.
- The audit trail of that correction, or of a founder reviewing a flagged walk, including the note they typed. For “duplicate upload” that is harmless; a note that names you is not, and that is the part being reviewed.
- Your address on a closed-test invitation list, if you were invited to one, and in the record of it being added.
We would rather say this than have you find it out. If you want any of it removed, email [email protected] and say so — we will do it by hand.
Worth knowing
What deleting your account doesn’t reach
- Health Connect. Walks Emshi saved into Health Connect stay there until you delete them in Health Connect.
- Vouchers you already redeemed stay usable under the sponsor’s terms.
- Uninstalling Emshi doesn’t delete your account. Delete it in the app first, or email us.
Short of deleting everything
Deleting some of your data
- Turn off the Nearby leaderboard, or Save walks to Health Connect, in Settings → Privacy.
- Turn off location, physical activity or notifications for Emshi in Android’s settings, or its permissions in Health Connect.
- Email [email protected] to delete specific data — your walk history, for example — without closing your account.
The privacy policy has everything Emshi collects and why.
